A scrumptious Spice Cake that tastes like Autumn.

3/4 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup shortening

1 cup Buttermilk

3 eggs

preparation

1.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans; set aside.

2.  Sift the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg in the bowl of a stand mixer. Add shortening and buttermilk; beat for 2 minutes.

3.  Add eggs; beat an additional 2 minutes. Pour batter into the prepared pans.

4.  Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until a cake tester inserted in the middle come out clean.

5.  Remove from the oven and let layers cool in the pans on a wire rack.

6.  Meanwhile, frost with your favorite frosting.
